My name is Christine (Moses) Moor and I recently got married.  My husband, David Moor, and I had our rehearsal dinner at the Great Outdoors on May 20th.
I just wanted to compliment both you and your staff on the wonderful job you did!

Cristina Ingo helped us every step of the way and was VERY accomodating and willing to talk and work with us to make it the best night possible for us.  She did a great job pulling everything together for us!

The food, service, and atmosphere was perfect and it completely enhanced our experience!  Again, I just wanted to thank you (especially Cristina) for all that you did to help host a wonderful rehearsal dinner.  We love eating and socializing at the Great Outodoors and will be back very soon!

My friends and I recently had lunch at your restaurant.  We really enjoyed it.  The food was really good and the atmosphere terrific.

We thoroughly enjoyed our server – “Brownie”.  She was funny and personable and did a really good job serving us.  I plan to come back soon and recommend Great Outdoors to family and friends.  I will tell them to ask for “Brownie” as well.

So many times these days employees just go through the motions – Brownie really seems to enjoy what she does and it comes across to the customer.

Sincerely,

Ruth Roberts

GET CARRIED AWAY TO HIGH SPRINGS

altBy LENORA LAKE | Tribune correspondent

HIGH SPRINGS - This sleepy town is a perfect little hideaway for lovers.
That includes people who love the great outdoors; people who love arts and antiquing; and people in love and looking for a place with romance. About 30 minutes northwest of Gainesville, the town of High Springs, home of about 3,600 residents, was once part of Henry B. Plant's railroad empire and later the Atlantic Coastline.

I celebrated my 80th birthday at your restaurant and it was the most enjoyable time I've had. The waitress was very attentive and humorous and followed through on her promise to send photos via my e-mail address. This waitress, Brownie, is truly an asset to you and the community. May you have many years of continued support as this is by far the best restaurant in the area. Thank you again for the most enjoyable birthday.

Just got home to Hollywood Florida from a canoeing trip in High Springs. I loved your restaurant. Ate there 2 nights and enjoyed the music on Friday very much. I even hung out by the fire outdoors in the rain for a while.  It definitely enhances the quality of life in your area. I hope to come back and visit again some day.

I just wanted to let you know how pleased I was Saturday evening when we brought some friends to The Great Outdoors for dinner. The new menu not only looked great, but the food and service were phenomenal. Go ahead and pat yourself on the back, you’ve done a wonderful job! Our entire experience was fantastic.

I was in Gainesville to give a seminar on biodiversity for the Entomology Department, and was hosted by a graduate student, Heidi Hanspeterson. She and her husband (Jeff, a rural M.D.) took me and my brother (he's from Orlando) canoeing on the Santa Fe last Saturday (talk about biodiversity!), and then we had dinner at your restaurant. Great food, beer (Naked Ed's), and service, and I especially enjoyed seeing the gorgeous wooden canoes. Thanks to you and your colleagues for an excellent finish to a great day.

Hope to get back to visit again some time soon.

(An invitation to a Girls Night Out at the Great Outdoors Restaurant!)

GIRLFRIENDS

A group of 15 year old girls discussed where they should meet for dinner.  Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Pot of Gold next to the Great Outdoors restaurant because they only had $6.00 between them and Jimmy Johnson, that cute boy in Social Studies, lives on that street and they might see him and they can ride their bikes there.

10 years later, the group of 25 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because the beer was cheap, they had free snacks, the band was good and there was no cover.

10 years later, at 35 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because the cosmos were good, it was right in town and if they go late enough, there wouldn't be too many whiny little kids.

10 years later, at 45 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because the martinis were big, and the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.

10 years later, at 55 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because the food there was reasonable, the wine list was good, they had nice cold A/C in case of a hot flash, and fish is good for your cholesterol.

10 years later, at 65 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because lighting was good and they have an early bird special.

10 years later, at 75 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because food was not too spicy and the restaurant was handicapped accessible 10 years later, at 85 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Great Outdoors restaurant because they had never been there before.

We recently had a great meal with several friends at your lovely retaurant.  Thank you for making it such a nice evening.  Your food and ambiance is so exceptional that we are recommending it to several of our gourmet-loving friends.

My wife and I recently had dinner at your wonderful restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere.  Your hostest was as sweet as she can be and our waiter, Joel, was terrific!  Congratulations!

I just wanted to extend my thanks to you and your staff for everything you did to make John and I’s wedding an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime event. It was so nice to be nearly worry-free on the day of our wedding; you did an excellent job of taking the worries off our hands and making sure every detail was perfect by the time guests arrived.

The Great Outdoors did a wonderful job with the food – we have gotten raves from almost every guest we’ve talked to since saying the food was the best food they’d ever eaten at a wedding, and one or two said it was in the running for best food they’d ever eaten, period! The centerpieces and tables looked amazing; you really do have a talent for lighting and setting a romantic old-timey mood in there, especially with the sparkling Christmas decorations (our presents under the tree idea was a major hit!).

The wait staff was so helpful, from helping our Best Man with the microphone to cutting and serving the cake quickly to procuring last-minute champagne in a jiff. Everyone was just enchanted by the Opera House...we’ve literally gotten personal e-mails from several family members saying that it was a perfect wedding, because of the Opera House in combination with the Baughman Center, both stunning locations.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know how pleased we were. Even the price was just unbeatable, although the one thing we might have changed is giving our guests such good notice of when the bar would close, because some took major advantage of that courtesy! I know, you tried to warn us :) And it was completely made up for by not having extensive bartender charges, not charging us for the champagne toast, not charging us for cake cutting, not needing a wedding planner because of all your hard work, etc., which other locations certainly do not do for their clients.  I would recommend the Opera House to anyone having ANY kind of event in the area, hands down.
